Conroe Courier/ May 20, 2020/ Fishing Reports, News

Fishing on Lake Conroe is good. The water is of good color anywhere on the lake, the level is 200.11 feet, and the temperature of the water is running in the low 70s at the dam.

Black bass are fair to good. Texas rigged soft plastics in Tequila Sunrise, Black Blue or pumpkin with a chartreuse tail worked along docks, riprap and other structures in 4-12 feet of water are producing good results. Small, ¼-ounce Spinner baits in chartreuse or white early in the morning are always good this time of year.

Crappie are good on the brush piles and around boat docks at the marinas and bridge pylons. Fishing guide Carl Bostic said the parties he had out recently averaged 15- 20 fish on minnows or chartreuse jigs over brush in 12-18 feet of water. Bostic said the average size of the crappie caught were 11-13 inches.

Catfish are good, but be prepared to catch a lot of small ones, as well as keepers. Bostic said they were catching three small catfish for every keeper, and they came in with their limit of keepers. The ones caught by the party he had out on Monday were in 12-30 feet of water. All keepers were between 2-4 pounds. He said they also caught some blue catfish drifting cut bait on windy days that weighed 3-20 pounds.

White Bass and Hybrids are scattered. You might try over humps and drop-offs in 18-25 feet of water. Bostic said some are being caught on chicken liver with the catfish. Most caught were over the humps and points in 25-30 feet of water on trolling pet spoons behind mud bugs or hell benders or on shad.

Bream are moving up on the brush and riprap. Night crawlers and meal worms are still the best bait, and nice bream the size of your hand are being caught.

The information for this fishing report has been made available by Bostic, working out of Seven Coves. For information about his services, visit his website at www.wethook.com or call 936-718-7983.
